Clifford L. Pierson of Cromwell, husband of Elizabeth (Lober) Pierson and the late Ruby Gefvert Pierson passed away on February 11, 2016 in Middletown, CT. Born on November 30, 1923 in Middletown, he was the son of the late David and Elsa (Malm) Pierson and lived his entire life in Cromwell. He was a member of Hilltop Covenant Church and a veteran of WWII, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army.
Cliff was the first mailman in Cromwell to have a walking route, serving the community on foot for 28 years. He loved telling stories and among them were stories of how he was able to help people along his route. After retirement from the post office, he was a custodian at Cromwell High School. Serving a year as Commander and then Chaplain for many years in the Legion, he reached more than 50 years of membership in American Legion Carlson-Sjovall Post No. 105, Washington Lodge No. 81 AF & AM and as a Past Patron in Lady Washington Chapter #45, O.E.S. He was an avid supporter of the Patriots, Red Sox and UCONN Women's Basketball. He enjoyed sports playing softball for Cromwell American Legion Team and was a Manager of the baseball team for many years. In later years playing pool at the Cromwell Senior Center on Tuesday mornings was never to be missed. Most importantly, he never missed watching his two sons play sports in high school.
Family was very important to Cliff. Along with his wife, he leaves his sons David and Clifford with his wife Virginia; his stepdaughters, JoAnne & Michelle, their husbands Bruce Horne and Rob Bartha, along with grandchildren, Joshua with his wife Shania, Kathleen, Kristen, Jordan, Nicole, Katie and Benjamin. The family extends sincere gratitude to the entire staff of the Middlesex Hospice Unit for their kindness, care and love given to our Cliff, and by extension to the family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Hilltop Covenant Church, Hicksville Road, Cromwell, CT.
