Edwin J. Lasak, 77, of Depot Hill Road, Cobalt, beloved husband of Irene (Lucier) Lasak for 50 years, died Friday (October 1, 1999) at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Salem, NH, October 2, 1921, the son of the late Martin and Sophie (Gut) Lasak. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he fought in the Battle of Britain and with the 1st and 3rd Armies in the liberation of Western Europe. He also served in the New Hampshire National Guard. Before his retirement, Mr. Lasak was an art teacher at the Cromwell High School for over 30 years.

Besides his wife, Irene, he is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Alan E. Lasak of Cologne, Germany, Hilary J. and Mary (Nopper) Lasak of Haddam Neck and Martin J. Lasak of Cobalt; two daughters, and a son-in- law, Peter M. and Nancy J. (Lasak) Smith of Haddam Neck, and Betty J. Lasak of Middle Haddam; four grandchildren, Logan and Margaret Smith, and Nina and Stefan Lasak; his youngest brother, Martin Lasak; two sisters, Jennifer (Lasak) Michel of Cumberland, RI, and Ann (Lasak) White of Worcester, MA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Paula Lucier of Wolfeboro, NH, Peggy Lasak of McKinley, CA, Henry Mallek of Hooksett, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceasedby two brothers, Alexander Lasak and Henry Lasak; and two sisters, Helen Lasak and Caroline (Lasak) Mallek.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at the Spencer Funeral
Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton. Burial with military honors will follow
in Rock Landing Cemetery, Haddam Neck.
