Jane (Conlon) Kjellen, 91, wife of the late Philip C. Kjellen, to whom she was married for 60 years, passed away Friday, (June 29, 2001) at Portland Care and Rehabilitation Center, Portland. Born March 16, 1910 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Smyth) and James J. Conlon.
Jane and her husband moved to Cromwell in 1936. She was employed by the Board of Education in Cromwell as a cafeteria worker at Cromwell High School, retiring in 1965; was a communicant of St. John Church in Cromwell, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. John Women's Guild. Jane also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Fox Glenn every Wednesday.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth R. Kjellen of Portland; a daughter-in- law, Sandra J. Kjellen of Cromwell; two grandsons, whom she loved dearly, Kenneth R. Kjellen, Jr. of Middletown and Dr. Brett W. Kjellen of Chicago, IL; a sister, Catherine C. Trantolo of Avon; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Jean Kjellen of Farmington; sisters-in-law, Mrs. John (Isabelle) Glynn of Westfield, MA and Mrs. Philip (Viola) Talbot of Simsbury; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, dear friends; and in particular, two friends of over 60 years, Jennie Organek and Mildred Young. She is predeceased by three sisters, Ann Booth Pitney, Alice C. Pinto and Mary C. Vinsko.
Jane's family would like to thank the staff of Portland Care and Rehabilitation for the loving and compassionate care given to her and, in particular, all the nurses and nurses aides of the second floor west wing, who treated her like a member of their own family. Funeral services will be held from the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell, Tuesday, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John Church, Cromwell. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
