Born in Hartford to the late John and Emma (Langhans) McGann, she has been an East Granby resident for the last 40 years. Amy then worked at United Aircraft as an engineering aide where she was responsible for calculating the curvature of vanes and blades to provide the most efficient operation of the engine. After obtaining her master's degree from the University of Hartford, Amy continued to teach at many schools including Mark Twain School in Hartford, Weaver High School, Cromwell High School, St. Gabriels School in Windsor, East Catholic High School and East Granby High School, where she retired from in 1980. Amy enjoyed working at G. Fox in the Men's Ties and Scarves dept. during her Christmas vacations, and spent time as a bank teller in Middletown and as an asst. manager of a women's clothing store in Hamden.
For eight years, Amy owned and operated her own consignment, collectable, and antique shop in Granby called "Tickets and Fares." She was president of the Granby Senior Club and the Granby Civic Club serving as chairman of the Antique Wedding Gown Festivities. Amy was a member of the East Granby Bicentennial Commission, the East Granby Zoning Board of Appeals, and the East Granby Commission on Aging where she helped them secure their first bus. She also helped organize the East Granby Historical Society with Ethel Wilson, signing up 75 members that day. Amy had volunteered with the Gifts of Love office in Avon, and the McLean Auxillary as a recording secretary and in their gift shop. An exceptional woman, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
