Robert Frederick
1931-2020
Robert A. Frederick Sr, 89, husband of Patricia (Dominello) of 58 years, died on December 20, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Meriden, CT on April 4, 1931. He was the son of the late Wilbur and Dorothy Frederick. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before earning a BS in Business Administration from Quinnipiac College and an MS in Education from Central Connecticut State College. After starting in the Management program at G. Fox and Co, he changed careers and became a 5th grade teacher in Cromwell, CT where he retired after 31 years. Bob was a President of the Cromwell Education Association and active in other professional teaching organizations. He also served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Northampton.
He was an active parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church serving in various organizations, volunteering when needed and assisting with processing weekly collections. Bob loved to play the piano and played in many school productions. Each day, he filled the house with warmth and joy as he played his favorite piano music. He recorded a CD that will always be cherished by his family. Bob loved to watch sports, particularly, the Boston Red Sox and UConn Huskies. He loved to travel especially driving down to Florida to spend time with his daughter and her family. He was a great family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren – who unanimously believe he was the best grandpa ever. Among their many memories will be family vacations to Disney World and Lake George. Animals gravitated to him; he was a favorite human to all of his “grand dogs.” He took up golf in retirement and enjoyed many rounds with his longtime friend John Turro and grandson. He was well known for his love of Christmas and his meticulous attention to his oversized Christmas trees and Dickens Village.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary-Ellen Pellman (Mark Pellman Sr.) of Sarasota, FL and Gail Petras (Scott Petras) of Middletown, CT, and a son, Robert Frederick Jr. (Christine Frederick) of Granby, CT. He has three grandchildren, Mark Pellman, Jr., Marisa Frederick and Samantha Frederick. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Palardy of Fairport, NY (formerly Middletown, CT) and his sister-in-law, Teri Meyer of Meriden, CT. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Barbara Boris.
