Michael Green
1969 - 2026

Michael H. Green, 56, of Cromwell, known to so many as “Mikey” or “Greener”, passed away on February 27, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on December 5, 1969, he was the son of Lilli H. Green and the late Michael L. Green. He was also predeceased by his beloved younger brother, Russell “Rusty” Green. Upon graduating from Cromwell High School in 1987, Michael entered the police academy, following in his father’s footsteps. He dedicated over 25 years to serving the East Hampton community as a police officer, rising through the ranks with compassion and respect. Beyond titles and accomplishments, his leadership, mentorship, and ability to bring light to even the hardest days were admired by his colleagues.

Beyond his career, Mikey loved travel, photography, physical challenge, and meaningful conversation. Whether climbing Mt. Kenya, earning a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or captivating friends with his unmatched storytelling and quick wit, he embraced life fully and on his own terms. Greener had a gift for making you feel valued and instantly at ease, and could make you laugh first and think later. Michael brought passion, grit, and heart to everything he did, including playing guitar and piano, singing and writing his own songs, and partaking in all things related to mixed martial arts (MMA). He was also an expert marksman in anything that went “Bang!”

Michael will be remembered as a man of integrity, strength, generosity, and humor – one whose smile lit up a room, whose stories stayed with you, and whose presence left a permanent mark even if time and distance separated you. He showed us how to love deeply and face life’s battles with courage and grace.

Above all else, Michael was a devoted father to his three sons, who were his pride and joy: Cameron, Gunnar, and Daniel, whom he loved fiercely. Michael shared a loving and special bond with Joanna (Rocky) Nuckols, his former wife and the mother of their children. They built a partnership based on mutual respect, gratitude, and unwavering commitment to their boys. Their relationship reflected his character – steady, selfless, and rooted in love.

Besides his mother and sons, Michael leaves behind his Aunt Maryellen (Rich) Barrows and Aunt Bette Gigliotti, along with many dear cousins, including Danny, Kimberly, and Gordon. Michael is also survived by his loving and supportive girlfriend, Anna, for whom he was deeply grateful, as well as countless cherished lifelong friends.

Michael found comfort in his recently adopted dog, MacGruber Jefferson Green, who quickly became his constant companion and loyal shadow.
