Michael DeProto
1960 - 2025
Michael J. DeProto, 64, of Cromwell CT, passed away on Good Friday (April 18, 2025) due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and a passion for the open road.
He was born on May 13,1960. “Friday the 13th” to be exact. One of many tattoos representing his life. He was born in Hartford, son of Joseph Ganley and Sebastiana Zacchio. Michael was a veteran having served with the US Army 8th Infantry division, stationed in Germany. He was a lifelong, talented carpenter, retiring from Local Union 24.
Michael was known for his strong spirit, loyalty to family and friends, sense of adventure, and deep love for motorcycles. Riding wasn’t just a hobby- it was a way of life. He found peace on the road, wind in his face, and freedom in every mile.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend. His love for anyone he considered family was unmatched. He could always be counted on, whether it was for a good story, a helping hand, or someone to ride alongside you in a time of need…..
Michael is survived by his daughter Danielle Spinali (DeProto) of Durham, sons: Domenic DeProto of Durham, Joseph DeProto of Cromwell, and Shawn Spada of Cromwell. Sister Jo-Ann Anderson (DeProto) of East Hampton, Poppa’s grandson Ottavio Michael Spinali, and his beloved dog, Rocko. Also survived by his parents, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He is predeceased by his adoptive father Joseph DeProto of Cromwell and his first son Shaun Michael of Germany.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a service at 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown.
