Donald Grant

Donald Stewart Grant, 59, of Niantic, husband of Barbara (Briggs) Grant for 33 years, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Waters Edge in Middletown. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Alexander Grant and the late Patsy Ann (Huddleston) Laemmermann. Donald lived in Cromwell most of his life and was a graduate of the Cromwell High School Class of 1976. He attended CCSC and then fulfilled his childhood dreams of the Apollo Space Program and was employed at Hamilton (Standard) Sunstrand. Starting in maintenance, he advanced to Foreman of Mechanical Assembly of Sea and Space Systems where he had the privilege of guiding tours for many NASA and International Aerospace Dignitaries. He received many awards, including NASA's Space Shuttle Program's Snoopy Award. Donald was a former member of the Cromwell Outboard Association and the Morning Star Lodge in East Windsor. In his spare time, he spent many hours building, maintaining and operating a fleet of 4x4's, motorcycles, boats, RV's and motor homes in The 1000 Islands, NY and Vermont. He participated for many years in the CT River Raft Race, which led to the design and role of Chief Building Engineer and Commander of Wienies on the Waves. Along with his wife, Donald is survived by his mother-in-law, Veronica "Ronnie" Pomfret of Middletown; a brother-in-law Robert Briggs, Jr. of Rocky Hill; four sisters-in-law, Darlene Briggs of Westbrook, Colleen Lawson of Middletown, Linda Briggs of Denver, CO and Laura Muhlberg of East Hampton; an uncle, John Huddleston and his wife Sharon of Alexandria Bay, NY; an aunt, Helen Grant of Windsor and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26th, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Cromwell. Interment will follow in Cromwell Hillside Cemetery West. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell.
