William Clapp, of Port Charlotte, FL born 8/22/1955, was called to rest on 9/27/2020. William graduated Cromwell High School in 1974 and soon after joined the United States Navy, serving from 1974 to 1978 as Aviation ordinance. During his time in the Navy he served aboard the USS Coral Sea (CV-43) during the Vietnam War, where he deployed and took part in various operations, including Operation Frequent Wing and Mayaquez Operation in 1975. William’s dedication to service was substantial, serving as both post commander and quarter master at the VFW post 2138. In addition, William was a member of the American Legion post 105, B.O.P.E post 19, Loyal Order of Moose, the Masonic Lodge No. 147, A.F. & A.M. and Shriners International. William also worked for the Connecticut State Police for 10 years, and State of Connecticut Department of Correction for 20 years.
William was predeceased by his wife Monica F. Clapp, and is survived by his daughter Brittaney A. Clapp, son Matthew W. Clapp, fiancé Susie Federico, mother Barbara Y. Clapp, his older brother Edward Clapp Jr. and his sister Barbara Bursey. William's father Edward A. Clapp Sr. predeceased him.
William Clapp retired in 2014 and enjoyed his time RV’ing before settling down in Port Charlotte, FL in 2018. William enjoyed riding Harley’s, in which he had three, spending time traveling the western coast of Florida in search of fun rides and neat places to stop and eat. William will be remembered as a diligent but social person, always willing to help someone in need.
Friends are invited to the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill, Thursday October 15, 2020 from 5pm-7pm. A grave side service with full military honors will be at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln, Middletown, Friday at 1pm. Flowers can be sent to the Brooklawn Funeral Home in Rocky Hill, CT.
