Joann Damiata
1953 - 2025


Joann Damiata, 71, of Colchester, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Gigante) Damiata.

Joann grew up in Cromwell and lived in Colchester since 1993. She was a cytotechnologist and earned her degree from Quinnipiac University, where she studied from 1971 to 1974. She also attended the Hartford Hospital School of Cytotechnology from 1973 to 1974, where she received her Cytotechnologist (ASCP) Certification. Joann worked as a cytotechnologist at Hartford Hospital from 1993 to 2001 and at Windham Hospital from 2002 to 2012.

She loved spending time with her daughter, Jessica, of Willimantic, and her niece, Samantha Naples, of Hamden. Joann enjoyed being in the sun, going to the beach, and working in her backyard garden.

Joann is survived by her daughter, Jessica Van Rheen (Scalice) of Willimantic; two brothers, Joseph Damiata Jr. of Middlefield and Michael Damiata of Colchester; and five nieces and nephews: Joey, Jennifer, Erica, Kristofer, and Samantha. Besides her parents, Joann was predeceased by her brother, Ricky Damiata, and her sister, Janet Naples.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.to celebrate Joann’s life, at Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. A brief ceremony will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation.
