George James Powers, 72, of Reno, Nevada, passed away
peacefully at home on September 4, 2025. Born on
October 23, 1952, in Cromwell, Connecticut, George
lived a life devoted to his wife, family, friends, service as
a Captain in the United States Air Force, and his career as
a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
George is survived by his loving wife, Julie-Anne Powers;
his daughter, Jennifer Powers; and his son, Thomas
Powers. He is also remembered with love by his brothers,
Edward and Daniel Powers; his in-laws, nieces and
nephews; and his two lifelong friends, Tom Newlander
and Fred Ward.
After meeting Julie at Wilford Hall Hospital on Lackland
Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, they married on
March 1, 1980. During his service in the Air Force,
George completed his CRNA certification and began a
distinguished medical career that spanned more than 40
years, retiring in 2019 from Children’s Hospital in Seattle,
Washington.
George was a lifelong learner and avid reader, a historian,
a passionate sports enthusiast, and a true baseball fan. His
hobbies included photography and traveling, especially
the many road trips he and Julie took to explore 35 of the
nation’s treasured national parks.
He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and the
unwavering support he gave to those he loved. His legacy
lives on in the cherished memories of his family and
friends.
A funeral mass will be held September 24th, 2025 at
9:30am at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, 310 W. 2nd Street in Reno, NV
where family and friends are invited to gather in
remembrance and celebration of his life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have
offered their support and condolences during this difficult
time.
