Karen Fowles Centofanti, 73, of Norwell, MA, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2025, surrounded by her immediate family. An inspiration to all around her, she fought a courageous 14-year battle against multiple myeloma with incredible strength and dignity. Born on March 9th, 1952, in Boston, MA, Karen was the beloved daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Fowles. After graduating from Cromwell High School in 1970, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education at Central Connecticut State University. Later, she went on to complete a master’s degree at Bridgewater State University. Karen began her teaching career in elementary education in Frankfurt, IN before moving to Hanson, MA. There, she worked at Maquan Elementary for over 25 years. Karen had a deep passion for reading and helping children with learning disabilities. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and writing children’s books. Karen was deeply devoted to her family, especially her six grandchildren.
Karen met the love of her life and soul mate, Bernie, in high school and they were married for over 51 years. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Fowles; her husband, Bernard; her son Brian Centofanti and daughter-in-law Lindsey Centofanti; her daughter Laura Verastegui and son-in-law Walt Verastegui; her grandchildren, Gabriel, Alessia, Samuel, Alexis, Kenny, and Evelyn; and her brothers, Robert Fowles and Ken Fowles.
Waking hours will be held on Friday, June 20th from 4:00-7:00 at Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St., Hanson. Karen always dressed in vibrant colors and floral prints, and to honor that, we encourage you to join us in wearing cheerful attire. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 639 High St., Hanson on Saturday, June 21st at 11:00.
