Thomas Sebold
1951 - 2025
Thomas Edward Sebold passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by family on Monday July 28th, 2025, at the age of 74.
Tom was born on January 7, 1951 and was the proud son of the late Hubert and Viola Sebold. He was raised in Cromwell, CT and spent his youth swimming and dive-shooting fish in their quarry, which he always remembered fondly. He graduated Xavier High School in 1969, received an Associates degree, and began working at Pratt & Whitney in 1972. After 20 years at Pratt, Sikorsky and United Technologies, he decided to pursue his lifelong dream, and at 43 years old, Tom attended the CT Police Academy to become a sworn officer of the Middletown Police Department. At the time, he was the oldest rookie officer in Connecticut history.
Tom was a warm, hard working guy who devoted 16 years of his life to serving and protecting Middletown, CT. During his first years on the Middletown Police force,Tom served as a special assistant to the chief, and was instrumental in the design and construction of the current MPD building on Main Street. While serving as Vice president of the Middletown Police Union, Tom fought tirelessly for his fellow officers and retirees. Tom was one of a kind. He was known for his love of the job and his commitment to helping others. He had many heartwarming stories which he enjoyed sharing throughout the years.
In addition to his devoted wife, Michele Sebold, Tom leaves behind his children: Melissa Gartside and her husband Kirk of Cromwell, Matthew Sebold of Medford, MA., and his stepchildren: Rachel Simpson (Jimmy) and Nicholas O’Donnell both of Middletown, CT, whom he loved as his own. He was the proud grandfather of Abigail, Ethan and Benjamin. He is also survived by his first wife and the mother of his children, Barbara Coughlin Sebold, as well as many other friends and family.
Calling hours will be Friday August 1st from 5-8pm at D’Angelo’s Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, Middletown, CT. A Mass with Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 2nd at 10am, St. Mary’s Church, 79 South Main Street, Middletown, CT. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 305 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. There will be a reception at the Elks Club, 44 Maynard St, Middletown, CT immediately following and all are welcome to attend.
