Richard Simons
1949 - 2023

Richard Simons, age 74, of Wilmington, NC passed away May 20th 2023 with family nearby. He was born in CT to the late Fred Simons and Louise (Kosinski) Simons. Richard resided in CT most of his life until he moved to Wilmington, NC in June of 2018 to be closer to his children and the beach.

For years he lived an active lifestyle either playing, coaching, umpiring, or serving on the board of various Cromwell, CT baseball and softball teams/leagues. He even played baseball for UCONN for a year before having to withdraw due to illness. He recovered and worked hard, often holding down two or three jobs at a time, until he finally retired from his career as a Senior Construction Inspector for the Town of Glastonbury, CT in 2011. In his free time Richard longed to be at the beach, attending sporting events, or dining out for a good steak and potato dinner. He loved vacationing in the mountains of NH, at Lake George, NY, or at the desert resorts of NV.

Richard is survived by his daughter Lisa Gross and son-in-law David Gross, his son Gregory Simons and his daughter-in-law Michele Simons, granddaughters Lena & Lola, grandsons Harris & Hampton and his brand new grandbaby Harlow Elizabeth Simons (who he was blessed to meet before he passed). Richard is also survived by his long-time, best friend Rick Mandeville of CT and his previous long time partner Jean Fahey of CT.

Preceding him in death along with his parents are his step mother Eleanor Simons, brother Robert Simons, and sister Nancy Lee. He will be missed by so many people that were lucky enough to enjoy a laugh with him during his lifetime.

If you knew Richard, his children would love to read anything you'd like to share. Hartford Courant obituaries.
