Richard “Rick” Joseph Callahan, Jr.

1945 - 2023


Richard "Rick" Joseph Callahan, Jr., 78, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on December 18, 2023, at The Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida of Parkinson's Disease and respiratory failure. He was born on October 18, 1945, in New Britain, Connecticut and made his home and raised his family in Cromwell and Higganum, Connecticut. Rick was a dedicated and devoted partner to his long-time friend, Joan Hatfield. They were childhood "choir nerds" who shared a deep love of music and singing.

Rick is survived by his son Richard Callahan and spouse Colleen Dolohanty of Manchester; brother Patrick Callahan and spouse Sandra of Florida; brother Thomas Callahan and spouse Dean Goishi of Florida; brother Lawrence Callahan and spouse Donna of Cromwell; and brother Timothy Callahan and spouse Joanne of Portland. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son; Shaun Callahan and his parents Richard Callahan, Sr. and Elizabeth (Sullivan).

Rick attended Cromwell High School. Then worked as a Tool and Die maker at Emhart Corporation. Much of his professional career was at Pratt & Whitney Corp and affiliates for 38 years. Rick held various positions of increasing responsibilities and importance, of which he was very proud. As a retiree, he worked as a professional photographer for the Disney Corporation, capturing magical moments for children and families. Rick had a passion for singing and was a professional singer and soloist. In addition, he enjoyed buying and selling classic cars like Corvettes and Mustangs. He also had a keen and long-time interest and expertise in photography.

May Rick's spirit find eternal peace and rest, and may his memory be a source of comfort and strength to his loved ones. He was "one of the best" and will forever live in the hearts of all those he loved.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
