John Polzun
1945 - 1997


John N. "Pokey" Polzun, 52, of Court St., Cromwell, husband of Camellia "Sherry" (Whiting) Polzun, died Wednesday (March 26, 1997), at Middlesex Hospital.

Born in Hartford, he was the son of Elizabeth Polzun and the late Harry Polzun. Mr. Polzun had lived in Cromwell most of his life and was a graduate of Cromwell High School, Class of 1963. He was employed by A.N. Pierson, Inc., for 16 years, and by Nyren Seagroatt Wholesale Florist in Plantsville for 16 years, retiring in July, 1996. He was en avid basketball player, playing in the Cromwell mens basketball league until two years ago. He was very popular in Cromwell High School sports and enjoyed gardening and hunting.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Laurie (Polzun) Worster and her husband, Terry, of Cromwell; three brothers and their wives, Harry Polzun Trabold and Martha of Bethel, Willie and Linda Polzun of Delaware, and Michael and Nancy Hackbarth of Bristol; a sister and her husband, Beverly and Charles Griggys of Florida; two sisters-in- law, Joyce Norman of Cromwell, and Gwendolyn Hayden and her husband, Lloyd of Skowhegan, ME; a brother-in-law and his wife, William and Betty Whiting of Athens, ME; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at the First Congregational Church, Cromwell, Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Douglas G. J. VanVeldhuisen, minister, will officiate and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell, Friday 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Scleroderma Federation, c/o Mary Mannillo, 1250 Farmington Ave., Apt. C22, West Hartford, 06107.

Joan Hatfield sent some old photos of John and had this comment: "I love the one of him doing chores in the barn with the little kitten running ahead of him waiting for a snack of fresh milk. Pokey was a very gentle soul who loved animals, so I'm sure the little kitty knew it was snack time!!"
