Kevin Daly
1945 - 1993

Kevin F. Daly of Cromwell, a professional actor and dancer who played lead roles in local theater and on Broadway in the 1970s and 1980s, died Tuesday in Las Vegas while making a trip to the Grand Canyon. He was 48.

The cause of death was cancer, a family member said.

Mr. Daly, a Cromwell native, was an acting and dance instructor at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Performing Arts.

He appeared in the 1972 Broadway production of "No, No Nanette" with Ruby Keeler, and played the leading male role in the 1986 national tour of "42nd Street." In the 1970s and 1980s, his credits also include appearances at Goodspeed Opera House. More recently, he was in productions at Company One, Hartford, and the Centennial Theater, Simsbury .

Mr. Daly, who lived in New York for about 20 years before returning to Cromwell, was a member of the Actor's Equity and its council.

He was in the dramatic arts since age 4, when he auditioned at the Bushnell Memorial, said his sister, Deirdre Daly of Cromwell.

As a teenager, Mr. Daly was organist and choir director at St. John Church. He wrote, directed and produced several musical productions for the church and for the Knights of Columbus.

He received his degree from Trinity College in 1967 and studied under actor Phillip Burton at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, New York City

Hartford Courant - Oct 28, 1993

This was a publicity still that Kevin sent me about 1985, for a musical he was in with Martha Raye. He entertained my young sons one evening with stories about his early days in New York City. He had lived in a cold-water, second floor walk-up with the bath tub in the kitchen, which facinated my sons. He had also appeared in a soap opera and several broadway shows, and they thought it sounded very exciting. Cancer cut short the life of a very talented man.
