Vic Carta
1945 - 2024
Victor J. Carta, 79, of Vero Beach FL, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2024, after battling multiple illnesses over the past year. Born in Middletown, CT, he was the son of the late John and Anna Carta. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Patricia, and his wife Frances Barrasso.
Victor moved to Cromwell in the seventh grade and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1963, where he made many friends, was thought of as having a wild imagination, was an excellent dancer, and voted class clown and most talkative. Victor was also a very good athlete and played an integral part of winning track and field events, especially the javelin, and the championship for the basketball team. He furthered his education after high school to become an X-ray technician, followed by a very successful career in sales. During the 1970’s, he used his gift of gab and became a CB (citizen’s band) radio enthusiast. He set up his equipment in his house and chatted daily with truck drivers and many other CB owners, who wanted to carry on conversations. For those of you who are familiar with CB language, the words “breaker, breaker” and “10-4” were part of his every day communication. He had a very appropriate handle name “weird beard”. A long-time resident of CT and MA, he moved to Florida 4 years ago, enjoying winters in warmer weather.
His lifelong love for music led him to start a band with a group of local friends. He played guitar and sang with this group at bars and private functions for several years. After moving into his house in Vero Beach, Florida, he was very happy to meet neighbors who shared his love of music and they played and sang oldies at neighborhood get togethers, senior citizen residences and other local functions. He was reliving his youth and having a terrific time.
He kept in touch with old friends and made new ones wherever he went and was always ready and willing to help if someone was in need. Victor was a very generous, caring and giving person, who cherished his family and friends.
He is survived by his son Alexander Carta, daughter Jessica Buchanan, son-in-law Kenneth Buchanan and grandsons Carter and Trevor.
