Frederick Gengler
1941-2016
Frederick Joseph Gengler Sr., 74, of Cromwell, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Hawes) Gengler for forty-eight years. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Harry and Martha Dorthea (Bengtson) Gengler.
Shortly after Fred was born he moved to the family farm in Wisconsin, returning to Cromwell at age ten, where he remained in the community for the rest of his life. He was a Teamster Truck Driver employed by National Propane for 38 years. Shortly after retirement Fred took a position with the Town of Cromwell, where he worked at the Transfer Station for the last fifteen years. During his time at the Transfer Station he showed the utmost dedication and diligence to his duties and enjoyed his days seeing his friends in the community.
Fred enjoyed working outside with his hands. His favorite past time being gardening. He grew everything from seed in his greenhouse. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow. TRUMP 2016!
Along with his wife, Fred is survived by his brother, Michael H. Gengler and his wife Sandra of Cromwell; his son, Frederick J. Gengler Jr. and his wife Tressan of Cromwell; his daughter Patricia Gengler Hallden of Cromwell; four grandchildren, Danielle Gengler Rice and her husband Stephen, Austin (Hank) and Isabella Gengler and Noah Hallden; his sister-in-law, Sharon Minick of Clinton, and two brothers-in-law, Gary Hawes of Clinton and Daniel Hawes of Meriden.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16th at 11:00 am at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Family and friends may call on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory may be made to Farm Aide @ https://www.farmaid.org/donate.
