Barbara Lawton Henderson
1941 - 2010
Barbara "Barb" (Lawton) Henderson, 68, of Somers, beloved wife of James Henderson for 47 years, entered peacefully into eternal rest at her home comforted by her loving family on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.
Barbara was born in Middletown on Oct. 8, 1941, to the late John and Frances (Belniak) Lawton. She lived in Somers for the past 33 years where she was a devoted seventh- and eighth-grade reading teacher at Mabelle B. Avery Middle School. Barbara was past president of the Somers Teachers Union, past officer of the Connecticut Education Association, and a member of the Rockville Elks Lodge No. 1359. She also worked as a Realtor in Enfield and was associated with Century 21 Alaimo and Corrado. Barbara was an avid shopper who loved the beach and her "Beemer." A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she cherished her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nana."
In addition to her husband, James, Barbara leaves her son, James Henderson Jr., and his wife, Tracy, of Old Saybrook; her two daughters, Susan Cianfarani, and her husband, Wayne, of Somers, and Sharon August, and her husband, Keith, of Canton; her six grandchildren, Nicholas, Kelly, Jimmy, Katherine, Paige, and Cameron; and a special cousin, Daniel Belniak of Middletown. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Lawton.
Family and friends may gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Barbara's life at All Saints Church, 25 School St., Somersville, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may call on Barbara's family during calling hours at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, on today, Sept. 2, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m.
