Noel Sinclair Smith, 63, of Cromwell, beloved husband, best friend and soulmate of Christina A. (Bogue) Smith, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at his home, unexpectedly. Born in Middletown, he was the son of late Arthur W. and Anita M. (Dodge) Smith formerly of Cromwell and Friendship, ME.
Noel grew up in Cromwell where he met his wife in elementary school and were best friends since 1969 and were always there for each other in every aspect of their life together. Noel was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country with pride, in Kansas, Shemya, an island off of Alaska and North Dakota, before returning to his hometown of Cromwell. Noel was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service since 1987. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gleam of light Noel persevered through New England weather year round making many friends and acquaintances along the way. He was a "friendly" postman with an infectious smile and a unique sense of humor. Noel was an avid watercolorist, a long time photographer, a poet, loved reading a good suspense novel, listening to music and he also enjoyed the cultural arts. He enjoyed being by the water enjoying the solitude and beauty of nature. He loved camping at Lakeside Pines in Maine and Hammonassett Beach in CT, but most of all Noel was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren making memories to last a lifetime. He was a member of the NRA and the Capitol City Rifle & Pistol Club, Inc. in Rocky Hill where he enjoyed the sport of shooting. He was a member of the NALC Union Branch #20.
Noel is survived by his three sons, Jamie D. Smith of Cromwell, Ian M. Smith and his wife Jamie Jordan-Smith of Frisco, TX and Adam M. Smith of Cromwell; his precious grandchildren, Emma Mary May Smith, Makenzie Rose Smith, Samantha Dior Smith, Elyn Anita Mae Smith and Xander Oak Sinclair Smith, named after his PaPa Noel. He also leaves behind his brothers, Beckham Smith and his wife Janice and David Smith and his wife Rita, both of Hiawatha, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Brian O. Bogue and Laureen Maninger of Bothell, WA and Peter O. Bogue and wife Andrea of Middletown, CT, several nieces, nephews and cousins spread throughout the country that he loved dearly and was in touch with on his ever present "Facebook". His beloved friends whom he has shared many memories with for 43 years, John and Ellen and family of New Hampshire. His three special "daughters", Kate Nelson, Jaime Nicole West and JonTee. He also leaves behind his beloved grand-dogs, Boz, Bella & Wiley and his beloved Postal brothers and sisters. Noel was predeceased by his cherished in-laws Robert O. and May E. (Peterson) Bogue.
Family and friends may call on Friday, January 22nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Cromwell.
