Sheila Ann Carroll Oates
1953-2011
Sheila Ann (Carroll) Oates, 57, of Cromwell, beloved wife of Robert W. Oates, passed away on Monday, May 2, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Julia (Waters) Carroll. Sheila lived in Cromwell most of her life. She loved to tag sale, shop and make trips to Brimfield, Mass., three times a year. Sheila had a fun loving spirit that will be missed by all.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jenna T. Marzano of Middletown; her son, Thomas R. Oates of Middletown; her two best friends and sisters for life, Gail Waters and Judy Crooks, and many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 7, at noon in West Cemetery, 29 Hillside Road, Cromwell, with the Rev. Douglas G. J. VanVeldhuisen officiating.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell.
Sheila and her daughter were preparing a team for the American Cancer Society 's Relay For Life on June 11.
