Edward A. Haniewski, Jr
1950 - 2022
Edward Alfons Haniewski, Jr., 72, of Cheshire and formerly of Cromwell, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his home. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Edward, Sr. and Helen (Sekscenski) Haniewski.
Ed lived in Cromwell most of his life graduating Cromwell High School Class of 1968. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Puget Sound AD 38 and the USS Newport LST 179 during the Vietnam War.
He owned Haniewski Diesel Service in Meriden for over twenty years. Ed was a professional commercial diesel mechanic that took pride in his skill.
When not working, he enjoyed mechanical projects including pull trucks and circle track racing. Ed enjoyed listening to oldies music, telling stories of the old days, good showmanship and people's enjoyment of a good time. He was loved by everyone and will be remembered as a very sociable, nice guy. Ed was famous for saying "Do it right or don't do it at all."
Ed is survived by three sons, Jeffrey E. Haniewski and his wife Cheryl of Meriden, Edward Haniewski, III and his wife Kacy of Meriden and Christopher M. Haniewski and his wife Kelly of Portland; two brothers, David Haniewski and Robert Haniewski, both of Florida; and eight grandchildren, Amanda, Bailey, Kaitlyn, Edward, IV (Teddy), Emilee, Jake, Christopher, Jr., and Noelle.
Along with his parents, Ed was predeceased by his companion, Jackie Danielson.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the State Veteran Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown where full military honors will be accorded. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell.
