Louis F. "Buddy" Spada
1934 - 2013
Louis F. "Buddy" Spada, 79, of Cromwell, husband of Barbara (Adams) Spada, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, (April 17). Born in Cromwell, he was the son of the late Anthony and Emanuella (Luistro) Spada.
A lifetime resident of Cromwell, he attended Cromwell Schools and graduated with the wonderful Class of 1952 from Middletown High School. He graduated from New England Technical School in Providence, RI, served in the U.S. Army and then joined the family business, Spada's Oil which evolved into Cromwell Energy, Inc. and remains family owned and operated. Buddy served as president and then many years as treasurer of the CT Valley Service Managers Association and was a member of the Independent CT Petroleum Association. Buddy was a 58 year member of the Cromwell Fire Dept. serving 30 years as commissioner, the last ten terms as president of the commission. He was a 58 year member of the DeSoto Council #6 K of C serving many years as treasurer, was past president of the Cromwell Lions Club and served as eye research chairman for Yale University. He was an avid supporter of Cromwell Youth activities and served in many capacities for Cromwell Little League, Cromwell Youth Football and Cromwell Soccer Chill. He initiated and over saw the construction of the little league dugouts and the pavilion at Watrous Park. Buddy was also on the building committee for the original Cromwell High School and was Cromwell's Man of the Year in 2008.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Louis, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, and William, all of Cromwell; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Heslin and her husband, Robert of Norwalk; five grandchildren, Tanya, Erica, Shannon, Melanie and William Spada, Jr.; two sisters, Anna Carta of Middletown and Rosemarie Organek of Portland and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore and Anthony.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, at 10 a.m. at St. John Church, 5 St. John Court, Cromwell. Family and friends are asked to go directly to church. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell and in lieu of flowers make donations to Cromwell Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
