Class of 1941
Bertha Roseta (Russell) DeNigris, 87, of Killingworth, wife of the late Alphonse R. DeNigris, passed away on Thursday, June 3, at her home. Born in Cromwell, she was the daughter of the late Arland W. Russell Sr. and Annie (LeBlanc) Russell.
Bertha resided in Cromwell most of her life moving to Killingworth four years ago and was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Killingworth. She graduated from Middletown High School, Class of 1941, was very active in and a leader of TOPS, and Bertha and her husband were both square dancers belonging to the Rosetown Square Dance Club in Cromwell.
She is survived by her brother, Eugene (Gene) R. Russell Sr. and his wife, Mary, of Manhattan, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Norrine Russell of Portland and Betty Russell of Georgia, and a great number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Bertha was predeceased by three brothers, Arland W. Russell Jr. and his late wife, Betty, John E. Russell and James F. Russell; two sisters, Ruth Valiencourt and her late husband, Romeo, and Margaret Anderson and her late husband, Carl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at Saint Lawrence Church, 7 Hemlock Road, Killingworth, with the Rev. Jan Swiderski officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
